Between Closed and Unclosed Discourse

With Rahul Gandhi openly declaring that the fight of Congress in India as not simply with BJP and RSS but one that includes the Indian State, the BJP seemed to have acquired more ammunition to change to political discourse to the supposed treason of Rahul against the Indian state. In order to resist the discursive subject positions offered by the BJP and its hydra apparatus , we have to move away from our tendency to only think through representational thought.

Representational thought fixes boundaries and content and conditions us to think through identities in an oppositional way. Perhaps, we have the challenge to step outside the trap of binary logic in order to remove the sting out of the politics of BJP. Moving away from the binary oppositional logic, we have to also move away from Hegelian dialecticism through which our thought remains impoverished and becomes bi-polar.

BJP’s politics depends on polarisation looking for a higher homeostatic identity. This itself will eventually be displaced by the force of dialecticism of Hegelianism. We have to rise above Hegelianism. Instead of thinking through closed representative identities, it is important to think through difference and unclosed relations.

This stepping outside the cave of identity thinking may indeed be an anti-dote to the hate-ridden polarising politics of the BJP. Non-dialectical or non-Hegelian thinking opposes dialectical thinking and hence may open alternate ways of doing politics in our country. To overturn the dialectical political order of BJP, we have the challenge to embrace non-dialectical thinking.

The discourse opened by Rahul Gandhi cannot simply be closed to what Godi media appear to make of it. The Godi media closed his discourse to mean anti-nationalism and set it on the spirals of dialecticism. Rahul Gandhi’s discourse is unclosed and hence, provides us an insight into what is wrong with using Luis Althusser catogory, we might call state apparatus. It illumines how our democracy and the constitution is destabilized from within.

If we take the subject position of the discourse unleashed by Godi media in response to Rahul’s discourse, we may miss to unearth the rapture that the ruling BJP has effected into our democracy. Hence, it is critical that we resist the reductive closure of Rahul’s discourse as anti-nationalism of an Urban Naxal. The BJP wants to close Rahul’s discourse by labelling it as anti-national. It has set it up as opposite of our nation. This other of our nation is deemed as Anti-national. Thus, the BJP has opened binary dialectics that made Rahul Gandhi appear a demon.

Staying with the immanence of the unclosed discourse of Rahul , will enable us to open things that the ruling BJP wants to hide. This means Rahul’s discourse invites us to unthink and dismantle the veil of ignorance cast around us by the BJP-RSS combine. It will also manifest the bio-power as well as psycho-power that is operating in our society today. We cannot summit to this body-mind control. Hence, we have to examine how BJP is using our institutions stablished by our constitution to subvert democracy and weaken or country.

Maybe, we have to identify the ideology unleased by the polarising politics of BJP as thought of the centre and view the one that flows from the discourse of Rahul Gandhi as decentring. The decentring impulse of this discourse produces a desire of restoration and revival of our dying democracy. The discursive play opened by the discourse of Rahul is dangerous for the ruling benches and hence, we can notice how strong measures are laid down by their media apparatus to put a lid on it.

We cannot allow the discours8e to die. It has to stay alive in order to let us understand our immersion into the crises that face our nation today. The decentring immanence of the discourse puts the spotlight on BJP and manifest it’s wrong doings in several ways. The moving waters of the discourse, can produce political earthquake.

The discourse of Rahul Gandhi has put the state of affairs that ail our democracy under our gaze. It produces a condition for the rulers of being under a watch of the people. This condition is certainly resisted by the ruling benches. This is why there are attempts to shift the gaze on the person of Rahul Gandhi . We have the challenge to keep our eyes on the eye of power that is ruling us. There are several efforts to hide what the eye of power is doing. Thanks to Rahul Gandhi, we have a counter gaze that opens our eyes to the manner the eye of power is misruling our country. The discourse of Gandhi produces the power of our eye or gaze that can indeed keep a check on the eye of power in our country.
