Born on March 26, 1965, in Panjim, Agnelo was raised in the serene village of Borim, Ponda, surrounded by lush fields, hillocks, and the tranquil Zuari River. His upbringing in this idyllic setting instilled in him a deep love for Goan traditions and culture. A Civil Engineering, Agnelo recently retired as engineer for the Water Resources Department, but his true calling lies in the arts. From a young age, he was drawn to the stage, performing in drama in third standard, which sparked his lifelong passion for tiatr, the traditional Goan form of musical theater.
Reviving Goan Heritage Through Tiatr
Agnelo Borim is a towering figure in the world of Konkani tiatr, a medium that blends drama, music, and social commentary to reflect Goan life. As a writer, director, and producer, he has created several acclaimed tiatrs that address the erosion of Goan values while celebrating the state’s rich cultural tapestry. His notable works include Oxem Ek Ilhar (1996), which won 12 prizes at the Kala Academy Tiatr Competition, and Fantodd (2007), a powerful commentary on the degradation of Goan ethos. Critics have lauded these scripts for their relevance and suggested they be adapted for commercial audiences, a testament to their universal appeal.Through his banner, Vandana Productions Borim, founded in 1990, Agnelo has worked tirelessly to preserve the unique style of tiatr. The organization has organized tiatr competitions in South Goa for over nine years, providing a platform for both amateur and professional artists to showcase their talents. Despite financial challenges, Vandana Productions remains committed to nurturing new talent and keeping the art form alive.

Through Vandana Productions, he has also organized Konkani musical shows like Kandllam Onvllam, Zayo-Zuyo, Xevtim Abolim, Zatra, Goenkar Muzg, and Daiz, which celebrate Goan folk traditions and melodies.
Agnelo has also curated solo singing competitions alongside Herald . He also brought tje folk play that we call Khell on stage.
