Between Scalable Efficiency and Scalable Learning

Our society has been running all its institutions on scalable efficiency. We became part of this model with the advent of Industrial Revolution. The industrial revolution produced our society and our families. We have become workers domesticated to labour with great efficiency for the Industry or a corporation. Our efficiency is scalable and is reflected in our salaries and hierarchical positions in our work spaces. Those that exhibit greater efficiency rose to the high rungs of our society.

Today we are beaten by AI driven machines in the realm of scalable efficiency. One industrial revolution converted us into machines looking for efficient performance. While the new fourth industrial revolution brewing today is challenging us to come back to our human ways of being in the world. This new developments are challenging us to embrace scalable learning models. This is because we are seriously in danger of being replaced by AI and robotics . We do not have to machines to bit machines. We need to become humans. Scalable learning is a way of being human. It is taking up innovative ways of learning which explores creative responses. This scalable learning is required to deal with uncertainty and volatility that marks our life.

Scalable efficiency can only deal with predictive condition and collapses under unpredictability. The pandemic introduced to Volatile , Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous (VUCA) ecosystem. Under these conditions, scalable efficiency provides slow responses and has become irrelevant and is replaced by scalable learning. Individual able to calmly adept and learn with complex uncertain conditions are more likely to succeed rather that good old deductive managers that do not innovative but work with predictive possibilities.

This means learning becomes inductive which maybe called learning on the job. Responses based in the principle one size fits all have become obsolete. Scalable learning looks for individual customized responses. The Big Data Analytics shows how one size fits all makes less sense. Thus, our work spaces are fast transformed into spaces of Agile Learning. Agile learning needs critical thinking and collaborative ways of working and willingness to learn all the time. Those that are learning quickly and are responding effectively are those who are likely to grow with the fourth industrial. revolution
