“De-scripting Konkani: Unveiling the Heart of a Language”, authored by Rev. Dr. Victor Ferrao and published by The New Age Printers, Verna, was formally released at St. Francis Xavier’s Community Hall, Borim.
The event, organized by Dalgado Konknni Akademi, The New Age Printers, and St. Francis Xavier’s Church, brought together scholars, clergy, and language enthusiasts to celebrate a milestone in Goa’s linguistic heritage.
Rev. Dr. Nishant Alphonse Irudayadason, Dean of Philosophy at Jnana-Deepa Pontifical Athenaeum, Pune, released the book as Chief Guest. Rev. Dr. Socorro Mendes, Parish Priest of St. Anthony’s Church, Siolim, was Guest of Honour.
The evening began with a welcome address by Elsa Coutinho, Moderator of the PPC, St. Francis Xavier Church, Borim, followed by a floral welcome and lamp lighting. The programme featured Konkani songs performed by Naomi and Anca Barretto as musical interludes, adding a cultural touch to the event.
After the book release, the first copy was presented to Fr. Socorro Mendes, who praised Fr. Victor as a “towering personality with a brilliant intellect” and spoke on the beauty of Konkani dialects. Fr. Myron Barreto also lauded Fr. Victor, calling him “a ray of intelligence,” and urged attendees to nurture and express their literary gifts to spread and protect the Konkani language.
Mr. Celso Fernandes, President of Dalgado Konknni Akademi, highlighted Konkani’s richness, noting, “If our Konkani flows through many scripts, imagine how deeply its spirit runs. Let us speak and protect it.”
The programme included a discussion on linguistic identity and unity by Dr. Nishant Irudayadason and Fr. Victor Ferrao. Mr. Agnel de Borim kept the programme lively and engaging as the compere. The evening concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by the author.
“De-scripting Konkani: Unveiling the Heart of a Language” celebrates Konkani as a living, inclusive language, inspiring Goans to embrace their mother tongue with pride and ensuring its vibrant voice unites generations.
